Jim Chesney, Volunteer Extraordinaire

I first became aware of The Heimerdinger Foundation and the service they provide while going through cancer treatment myself several years ago. The pre surgery treatments and the post-surgery recovery taught me a lot about the importance of feeding yourself properly in battling a disease.  At the time, I didn’t reach out for help from anyone but family and friends.

Actually it was provided, free of charge, from all of them. I was and continue to be a very lucky man. Some people are not so lucky. They are faced with dealing with all the misery and hardships that comes with cancer treatment either by themselves or with very little help.

Even people that enjoy the process of cooking (like myself) would usually rather just do without than cook for themselves when they’re sick. These folks fill that void, asking for nothing in return and tirelessly, joyously move forward towards a single goal. That goal is to provide help to their fellow human beings that need help. I see the thanks in the peoples’ eyes that I deliver food to. I don’t always meet them face to face, but when I do, it is quite gratifying.  I have always tried to keep myself involved in service work that enriches the community it serves and this Foundation certainly does that. These are the kind of people I look forward to working with, every week. I am always glad to do whatever they ask of me and hope to continue to do that. Thanks for letting me help.
